She has bombed light poles along the River Seine in Paris and in front of Notre Dame and she has bombed a Michael's store in Dallas! Now she's going to bomb the Winspear Opera House!
There are some strange genres of art, and this is certainly one of them. Not a terrorist act, it's more like a Random Act of Art or Art Terrorism, with yarn as munitions.
Sally Ackerman, a normally nurturing mother and international Country Music singer, has organized a flash mob of 85 to Yarn Bomb the Winspear! The yarn bombing installation will be on display until the end of the run of HAIR at the Winspear. The yarn colors will be psychedelic and bright, just as they were in the Sixties. For feel-good times, see the Yarn Bombing in action Wednesday evening and the completed project after it is finished, then see the play. There is a discount ticket offer below.
Sally Ackerman and her husband, Bob Ackerman, are a Dallas Country Music duo who sing and play guitar, bass guitar, and porchboard every summer in Switzerland and the South of France. Bob writes all their songs, which are especially easy-to-listen-to Country Music. Some are in French, such as Regardez, Johnny Hallyday. (Hallyday is France's "Elvis".) On the same album are Take Me Back to Amarillo; My Belle Amiga; Down on Granddaddy's Farm; and Viva Lake Geneva, Viva Lac Leman.
HAIR was one of the most influential Broadway plays for several reasons. It was the first "concept play", it used experimental dramatic techniques, was developed from extemporizing workshops, and broke down the "fourth wall". It also defined the Rock Musical genre, was the first fully racially-integrated Broadway play, and on a broad front, challenged the societal norms of the West. It is said to be the last play that thoroughly pervaded the American culture. With an especially large number of songs, there were an unusual number of hits from the play. By 1970, productions around the world were bringing in one million dollars every ten days and there were royalties on 300 recordings of the show's songs, making it the most successful and the most performed Broadway score in history.
Be aware there is some brief nudity in HAIR. I was told it is a small part of the play...or maybe they said some parts are small. Well, you can see for yourself.
Now, if I could just fit into my jeans with the 34-inch waist and big bells and the psychedelic spider webs up and down each side.....

The Ackermans will be performing at Lakewood Library Fest this Saturday at 2pm. Library Fest takes place at our very own Lakewood Library on the corner of Abrams and Nesbitt ( just past the Lakewood Theatre on the right if your coming down Abrams.) There will several other acts beginning at 10 am, including our son Rami at 3 o'clock. There will also be a bake sale and a book sale and many other treats. Fun for the whole family!

The Ackermans have returned from their Summer Tour and will be performing at the Dallas County Democrats' Labor Day Picnic on Monday Sept. 7th, from 12 noon 'til 4pm.
The Ackermans will play the first part and then you will have a chance to hear from some of our elected officials.
The event will take place at the Catholic Czech Club, 4930 Military Parkway, Dallas TX 75227.
Admission is FREE and so is parking. It is inside and AIR CONDITIONED. The Democratic Party will provide the chicken and hot dogs. If you like, you can bring a casserole or side dish or dessert!
